Continuing education
This seed sowing sister has been given a wonderful opportunity to help foster community with an organization that supports the arts. The reveal is still a few more weeks out as we prepare for the market season and to see where life is leading us this upcoming spring. For the past seven years we have been artisan vendors at our local farmers market located in downtown Boise,Idaho (Capital City Public Market). As the new market season approaches we look to other venues to spread our wings and our vision of engaging with others in our community. As we continue to showcase our ware throughout the treasure valley - I, in combination with my father-in-law, look towards working the land. With plenty of vendor experience under our belt - the education, research and everything else involved with working the land and potentially bringing our harvest to market - is a new venture on the horizon. For some time now I have spoken of planting fibrous plants to be pounded down into pulp for making paper. Now I look at plants for both their ornamental/decorative purposes along with their nutritious value. So - here's to continuing education.

The Year of the Rabbit!
Just learned that "Rabbit years are generally an excellent time for arts, culture, world diplomacy and focusing on the family..." It's due to be a much quieter year than the voracious year of the tiger - a year that was filled full of change, change, and more change. Yes life is always full of changes! The changes of the last year included both personal & business related expotential changes. When December climaxed I felt a pretty consistent feeling that a chapter in my life was ending and a new story was unfolding. Little did I know how serendiptious the start of 2011 would be. In the first 34 days of the new year I have been blessed daily by the hardships of the past that have blossomed into unforeseen gifts. I see lots of art, lots of culture and lots of focusing on the family this year. They've all been in my headlights for the past couple years - now - finally they're all residing in my lap. I am in a very grand place.

Unconventional thinking
Check out what's going on in NYC. Fun, creative and innovative thinking using bus tops for growing gardens. Gardens Flourish on Top of City Busses. Think of the potential if it was actual food - not just ground cover, flowers, shrubs and the like. Granted the potential of growing food lends itself to a whole other can of worms when the bounty proliferates on top of a bus - it also lends itself well to even more creative and innovative thinking! One could think to grow low growing crops like strawberries, or cool crops like spinach, lettuces, baby bok choy and even various herbs. It all depends on the the depth of the soil. Think apothecary. Think knot garden. Think outside the box. The question is - would you eat the food grown on top of an urban bus? I would so much it's been cleaned like any other commerical organic produce for consumer consumption. The mysterious side of plants transforms our terrible carbon waste into something magnificient - we put worse things in our bodies...

Possibilities
My mind is reeling with thoughts of seeds - the ones that turn into edible food! I've perused my seed catalogs while salivating over the possibilities of what will grow in my yard this year. I'm a work in progress - much like everyone else. I often have my moments where I start and stop, start and stop and fail to finish. It's taken me a while to remember where the hell I came from to realize that's exactly where I want to go. We have a lot of overhauling to do here on our little bit of land and I can't wait to shed the blood, sweat, and tears. Blood & sweat are obvious. The tears not so much. Through rekindling my love of the dirt I am honoring my foundation and healing hidden emotions quietly tucked away inside. Emotions tied to a woman who first taught me about dirt - who taught me how to love the land - and finally I am ready to allow her legacy to work through me. Here here to flowering!

Continuing on the path of BE-ing
Sowing seeds of change is more than sowing seeds from the fruits of our labor. It is about sowing seeds for food, for thought, and for the continued growth of spirit. Each moment as time transcends - no matter the familiarity - is something new and different. A constant ebb and flow of new possibilities gives rise to the opportunity to manifest as we speak, as we walk, as we run through life.
